About Thomas Metzinger
Thomas Metzinger, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1958, taught philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He is one of the most-cited contemporary German philosophers and is recognised worldwide as one of the most prominent philosophers of the mind and cognitive science. Metzinger was formerly President of the German Society for Cognitive Science and the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness. In 2018, he was appointed to the European Commission's High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence. He received the Pufendorf Medal in 2021 and was elected to Germany’s National Academy of Sciences in 2022.
