About John von Düffel
John von Düffel is a playwright, dramaturge, novelist and professor of scenic writing at the Berlin University of the Arts. He completed his doctorate on epistemology in 1989. Since then he has worked as a dramaturge and author at various theatres in Stendal, Oldenburg, Basel and Bonn. He was dramaturge at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg from 2000 to 2009. From 2009 to 2023 he was dramaturge at Deutsches Theater Berlin and professor of scenic writing at Berlin University of the Arts. His publications include "Vom Wasser", "Houwelandt" and his bestseller on asceticism, "Das Wenige und das Wesentliche".
